Author Guidance on Generative AI Tools

Generative AI tools are rapidly transforming the research landscape, offering new ways to analyze data, refine writing, and accelerate discovery. Using AI responsibly helps ensure that your work remains original, ethical, and aligned with scholarly standards.

We support the use of generative AI in scholarly research when it is applied in a responsible and appropriate manner.

Review Terms and Adherence to Agreements

Before selecting any AI tool, authors should carefully review its terms and conditions—especially sections about ownership, reuse, and opting out. Authors must confirm that the AI tool does not restrict how they, Technology, or anyone else can use their submitted work.

Authors are also required to comply with the terms and conditions of their agreement with Technology. They remain responsible for upholding all contractual representations, including ensuring that their material is original, not previously published, and that they have the right to grant Technology the permissions set forth in the agreement.

Human Oversight

Authors may only use AI tool as a companion to their writing process, not a replacement. Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy of all content and must verify that all claims, citations,references,and analyses align with their expertise and research.  Authors are responsible for ensuring that any written or visual content produced by or edited using a generative AI technology meets all Technology’s guidelines and policies.

Before incorporating AI-generated content into their work, authors must carefully review it to ensure the final version is accurate, original and adhering to Technology's ethical and editorial standards.

Generative AI tools cannot be used to create, alter or manipulate original research data and results

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of AI Technologies in either the research or the drafting of the manuscript when submitting their work to any Technology journal. If not provided, the journal may request this documentation.

Disclosure of AI use should be included in the following sections of the manuscript:

In the Acknowledgments, if AI assisted with manuscript drafting, editing, translation, or formatting.

In the Methods section, if AI was used to support research methodology, data collection or analysis, or literature review.

In figure captions, if AI generated or edited any visual content appearing in the manuscript.

This ensures that disclosures are placed where readers, editors, and reviewers naturally expect to find information about the tools and processes used in the work.

AI in Peer Review

Manuscripts under review are confidential and must not be uploaded, in whole or in part, to Generative AI tools. Authors have not granted reviewers permission to disclose their unpublished work to such tools.

We currently do not permit the use of generative AI to write peer review reports. However, reviewers may use AI in the following ways while maintaining the confidentiality of the manuscript:

• Using AI to enhance the clarity of your comments, or to translate your review

• Asking AI general questions about research or statistical methods without referencing specific content from the manuscript.
